Master of Business Administration

The Master of Social Business (MSB) is a pioneering graduate program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to create sustainable, socially impactful enterprises. Building on the principles of social innovation and ethical entrepreneurship, the program prepares graduates to tackle global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation through business solutions that prioritize social good alongside financial sustainability.

The MSB program emphasizes interactive learning methods including discussions, seminars, workshops, field projects, and case-based research. Students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience by engaging with real-world social business models, collaborating with industry experts, and exploring the intersection of business strategy, social impact, and sustainable development.

Program Length

Students normally complete the degree requirements within a maximum of two years from the date of admission. Under exceptional circumstances, the time limit may be extended up to seven years, with approval from the Program Advisor.

Course Load

Minimum: 9 credits (3 courses) per semester
Maximum: 15 credits (5 courses) per semester
Exceptions require approval from the MSB program office.

Credit Transfer and Course Waiver

Course waivers may be granted for foundational courses, and credit transfers may be accepted for equivalent graduate-level courses completed at other accredited universities, subject to departmental review.

Residency Requirement

Students must complete a minimum of 28 credits at the university to earn the Master of Social Business degree.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum GPA of 2.00 (or third class/division) in undergraduate studies.
  • SSC & HSC (or equivalent):
    • Minimum GPA of 2.50 in both SSC and HSC examinations, OR
    • At least one GPA of 2.00 with a combined total GPA of 6.00, OR
    • O'Level in 5 subjects with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and A'Level in 2 subjects with a minimum GPA of 2.00 (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1), OR
    • GED: Average 450 marks out of 800 (no subject below 410), OR
    • International Baccalaureate or American High School Diploma, OR
    • Sons/daughters of freedom fighters with an aggregate GPA of 5.00 in SSC and HSC.

Basis for Admission

(i) Prior academic achievements; and
(ii) Acceptable admission test scores or a minimum of 550 in TOEFL or 500 in GMAT.

Admission Form

Available for Tk. 500.00 at the university admission office. Completed admission forms must include copies of mark sheets, certificates, and testimonials from SSC & HSC (or O & A Levels, or Bachelor's degree) and four recent passport-size photographs.

Course Summary

The MSB curriculum combines foundational business knowledge with advanced training in social entrepreneurship and sustainable development. The program includes:

  • Foundation Courses: 7
  • Workshops: 3 (focused on social innovation and impact measurement)
  • Core Courses: 5 (covering social business strategy, ethical leadership, and development economics)
  • Concentration Courses: 4 (students choose areas such as Microfinance, Environmental Sustainability, or Social Enterprise Management)
  • Capstone Course: 1 (culminating in a real-world social business project or thesis)

Capstone Course:

After successful completion of all functional area (Core) courses students integrate the acquired concepts by a process of synthesis accomplished through the course Strategic Management. MBA600 Strategic Management.

Double Majors/Major-Minor:

The students are allowed to do double major or ‘a major & a minor’. Students may take two additional courses from a second area, which will be considered as a minor. Students already graduated may also be allowed to do relevant courses for concentration for which a separate certificate will be issued by the Program Chair.
